Cynthia Chapman – May 7th, 2010

Dr. Cynthia Chapman will present  “What is hypnosis? It’s usefulness in the clinical setting.”   Many people have at least a curiosity about what hypnosis is. But as a professional you may wonder, “How can something that is often related to a stage performance, be clinically useful?” In this discussion Dr. Chapman hopes to reduce some of the mystery of hypnosis by discussing it in the broader social terms of communication and influence. Perhaps this will create a curiosity to a technique that has shown to improve the treatment outcomes of any therapy that it is a part of.  Dr. Chapman received her doctorate from Fuller Theological Seminary, Graduate School of Psychology and holds a masters degree in Christian Leadership with an emphasis in integration of psychological and theological principles. Her main passion is assisting her clients in learning to master their chronic negative emotions instead of these emotions mastering them. She does this by equipping them with cognitive and behavioral tools that affect how they think, behave and feel.  She has a private practice in Carlsbad, is married to husband, Chad for 12 years, has a 19 month old son, Liam and another baby on the way.
